Jets Waive/Injured WR Chris Owusu, Activate RB Stevan Ridley

The New York Jets waived WR Chris Owusu with the injury designation on Friday to make room for veteran RB Stevan Ridley, who was activated off of the physically unable to perform list.

Should Owusu clear waivers, he would likely be added to their injured reserve list in the coming days.

Owusu, 25, originally signed on with the 49ers as an undrafted free agent out of Stanford back in 2012. He lasted just a few months in San Francisco before briefly playing for the Chargers and Buccaneers.

The Jets wound up signing him to a contract at start of last season, but he has been on an off of their roster ever since.

This season, Owusu has appeared in three games and caught six passes for 80 yards receiving and no touchdowns. He’s also contributed 58 kick return yards for the Jets.

Ridley, 26, signed a one-year, $1.25 million contract with the Jets back in April. He has yet to appear in a game this season, but the expectation is that he’ll be active in Week 8.

In 2014, Ridley ran for 340 yards on 94 carries (3.6 YPC) to go along with four receptions for 20 yards receiving and two total touchdowns over the course of six games.
