Nick Mullens has replaced Garoppolo at quarterback for the second half of Sunday’s game against the Jets.

Mostert opened the game with an 80-yard touchdown.

Garoppolo was clearly favoring his ankle since the first quarter and had X-rays taken at halftime.

Garoppolo, 28, is a former second-round pick of the Patriots back in 2014. The Patriots traded him to the 49ers in 2017 at the trade deadline in return for a 2018 second-round pick.

Garoppolo was in line to be an unrestricted free agent when the 49ers signed him to a five-year, $137.5 million contract during the 2018 offseason.

Entering today’s game, Garoppolo has completed 19 of 33 pass attempts (57.6 percent) for 259 yards and two touchdowns.

We’ll have more regarding both players as the news is available.
