According to Mary Kay Cabot, newly reinstated WR Josh Gordon is scheduled to report to the Browns on Tuesday.
Adam Schefter confirms the news and adds thatย the Browns hope Gordon will be ready to play in time for their Week 13 game against the Chargers in Los Angeles on Dec. 3.
This comes a week after NFL commissioner Roger Goodellย reinstated Gordon on a conditional basis Wednesday.
โAs emphasized at todayโs meeting, everyone โ including Joshโs teammates and coaches, the Brownsโ ownership and organization, the Program professionals and all of us at the league officeย โย want him to have every opportunity to resume his career and to be successful in the NFL,โ said Goodell. โWhether that happens, however, at the end of the day will depend on Josh. His commitment to sobriety and to reaching his goals in football and beyond will determine his success. It ultimately is up to Josh.โ
Statement from Browns VP of Football Operations Sashi Brown said of Gordon’s reinstatement:
โWeโve been informed of the leagueโs decision to reinstate Josh. The personal well-being of all our players is of the utmost importance to us. We respect and commend Josh for taking the steps necessary to have the opportunity to return to the league. Josh will be in our building in the coming days and we look forward to having him back and sitting with him to discuss his future on our team.โ
Gordon can attend meetings immediately and begin practicing on Nov. 20. He will be eligible at the teamโs discretion to return to active status or to remain on the Commissionerโs Exempt list for an additional week before returning to active status.
Schefterย reported ahead of the traded deadline that Gordon was meeting with the NFL on Wednesday to discuss the possibility of him being reinstated, and it appears as though he was able to convince Goodell to give him another shot.
There was even talk that he could possibly be traded, but the deadline came and went without him being dealt.
Back in May, the NFL denied Gordon’s reinstatement petition, but said he would he will be able to re-apply for reinstatement to the NFL later this fall, so this fits that timeline.
Gordon, 26, is a former second-round supplemental pick of the Browns back in 2012.ย He would have already been an unrestricted free agent had he not missed so much time due to suspensions, but the Browns hold his rights for two more years, given that he has just two accruedย seasons.
In 2014,ย Gordon appeared in five games and caught 24 passes for 303 yards receiving, but didn’t score aย touchdown.
