Josh Gordon “Still On Thin Ice” With Browns, Despite Conditional Reinstatement?

Jason Cole of B/R reports that Browns WR Josh Gordon is “still on thin ice” with the team, despite being reinstated on a conditional basis.

Sources within the Browns have told that they’ve become “wary” with all of the issues Gordon has dealt with since entering the NFL.

Gordonย will be forced to serve a four-game suspension at the start of the season, but he can at least participate in the Browns’ training camp. Beyond that,ย Gordon willย ย still have to participate in treatment during this period.

The good news it that the NFL will allow Gordon to take part in meetings during his four-gameย suspension.

Mary Kay Cabot points out thatย Gordon’sย suspension will cost him $251,389 of his $1,068,406 2016 salary.

Last Wednesday, Gordon met with commissioner Goodell regarding being reinstated and continuing his NFL career. Reports said that he may have to wait until August 1 to be reinstated, butย it appears as though Goodell decided to give him an opportunity to join the team forย training camp.

Back in April,ย the NFL denied Gordon’s petition for reinstatement from his indefinite suspension, and there was talk that the league couldย wait two-three months and see if Gordon couldย remain clean without any further issues before re-consideringย reinstating him to the league.

Gordon, 25, is a former second-round supplemental pick of the Browns back in 2012. He would have had just one moreย year remaining on hisย four-year, $5.342 million rookie contractย that$3.8 million included guaranteed.

However, Gordon’s suspensionย will prevent himย fromย becoming an unrestricted free agent after the 2015 season.ย Ian Rapoportย mentioned a while backย that Gordon’s suspensionย will keep be under contract through the 2016 season before becomingย a restricted free agent in 2017.

In 2014,ย Gordon appeared in five games and caught 24 passes for 303 yards receiving, but didn’t score aย touchdown.
