Latest On Colts & Philip Rivers

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that there’s “mutual interest” between the Colts and free agent QB Philip Rivers and it’s an open secret at the Combine that Indianapolis is expected to make a run at signing him this offseason.

Even so, Rapoport explains that depending on what happens with other quarterback situations such as the Titans and Ryan Tannehill and the Buccaneers and Jameis Winston, it’s possible other teams could be in the mix for Rivers. Although, Rapoport still believes the Colts make the most sense for Rivers.

Rapoport previously reported that he would not rule out the possibility of the Raiders being an option for the Rivers.

Rivers has a great relationship with HC Frank Reich from their time together with the Chargers. The Colts can also offer a solid offensive line to protect him and have enough cap space to improve their roster for a potential playoff run.

The Chargers and Rivers previously announced that they’ve mutually agreed to part ways.

Rivers, 38, is a former first-round pick of the Giants back in 2004. He was later traded to the Chargers in return for Eli Manning.

Rivers just finished the final year of his five-year, $99 million contract that includes $65 million guaranteed. He will be an unrestricted free agent for the first time in his NFL career this offseason.

In 2019, Rivers appeared in all 16 games for the Chargers and completed 66 percent of his passes for 4,615 yards, 23 touchdowns and 20 interceptions.

We have him included in our Top 100 – 2020 Free Agents list.

  1. The Colts already have a young, piss poor qb, we don’t need an old piss poor qb. Philip rivers WAS a good qb. 5 or more years ago. Come on, colts, get teddy Bridgewater or Ryan tannehill, ok? Don’t even think about Tom brady, come on. 70 million for a 43 year old qb?!?! Don’t care what his name is.
