Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Saints QB Drew Brees is improving from the 11 fractured ribs he suffered last month and was seen throwing at practice this past week.
According to Schefter, Brees is on track to return as soon as Week 14’s game against the Eagles. However, Brees won’t suit up next week, even though he’s made good progress to the point where he could be activated from injured reserve.
Schefter says that Taysom Hill‘s performance could also influence how soon Brees is back. The Saints have won both of the games he’s started for them and it could buy them some additional time to ensure that Brees is ready to return.
Ian Rapoport previously mentioned that a realistic return date for Brees is in Week 15 against the Chiefs, which would give him a few games to tune up before the playoffs.
Brees, 41, is a former second-round pick of the Chargers back in 2001. After five years with the Chargers, Brees signed on with the Saints as a free agent in 2006.
Brees has spent the past 12 seasons in New Orleans. He agreed to a new two-year, $50 million contract with the Saints this past March.
In 2020, Brees has appeared in nine games for the Saints and completed 73.5 percent of his passes for 2,196 yards, 18 touchdowns and three interceptions.
We’ll have more on Brees as the news is available.
