Calvin Watkins of ESPN mentions that the Cowboys “haven’t had discussions” about releasing WR Miles Austin.
There’s still a chance that they could approach Austin at some point in the coming weeks as they try to get their cap situation under control. ย It’s pretty clear that moves will have to be made.

ESPN’sย Adam Schefterย tweets that WRย Miles Austin could be aย “potential salary cap casualty” in the next few days as the Cowboys look to free up some much needed cap room.
Schefter adds that Dallas is “roughly $18 million over the cap” and cutting Austin loose would free upย $3.6 million.
Austin, 28, could also be approached about restructuring his contract. He’s dealt with a number of injuries in recent years, mainly to his hamstrings. The Cowboys gave him aย seven-year deal worth $57.168 million back in 2010, but they could be forced to make some adjustments or even get out fromย underneathย it now, so that they can improve their roster this offseason.
Dallas could also release OTย Doug Free, considering that his cap number is a staggeringย $11.2 million. Free received aย four year,ย $32 million contract back in 2011,ย so it seems as though thereโs a good chance he too could be released at some point in the near future.
