NFC East Notes: Eagles, Giants, Redskins

Eagles

  • Eagles C Jason Kelce said LT Jason Peters: “The best player I’ve ever played with, so I’d always love to play with Jason Peters. The decision is going to come down. It’s not something I’m too worried about. Regardless of who’s out there, we’re in a good situation from an offensive line standpoint.” (Zach Berman)
  • As for second-year OT Andre Dillard, Kelce said: “He’s got a lot of the things that are hard to get if you don’t have them. If there was one weakness to his game last year, it was power. …And that wasn’t even that big of a weakness that we couldn’t go out there and win. Now he gets a whole offseason.” (Zach Berman)

Giants

A source familiar with the Giants’ thinking during the 2019 draft tells Ryan Dunleavy of the New York Post they “ignored red flags” when scouting former first-round CB Deandre Baker and the room was “split” on whether to draft him.

โ€œThere was a battle in our building on whether we were going to take DeAndre or not, because the story was he had to have his aโ€“ kicked every day to work hard at Georgia โ€” to even go to practice. We knew that and we still drafted him, and from Day 1 it was like taking a guy in the first round that you had to teach nearly everything to,” said a source with knowledge of the Giants’ draft plans.

According to Dunleavy, Baker has “routinely” had difficulty staying awake during team meetings and the previous coaching staff took a “bad cop, bad cop” approach with him behind closed doors.

โ€œThis is a bad look for the Giants,โ€ said one NFL scout.

Another NFL source indicated that Baker’s talent was enough to select him, but New York may not have been the best fit for him.

โ€œYouโ€™d take him off his film,โ€ said Dunleavy’s source. โ€œBut there were too many red flags. It felt like New York was a bad spot for him, anyway.โ€

  • Dan Duggan reports that Baker didn’t participate in any of the Giants’ meetings during the team’s voluntary minicamp this week.

Redskins

  • Regarding Redskins WR Cody Latimer‘s recent arrest, attorney Harvey Steinberg asked to withhold judgment of his client until the “back story” of his arrest is revealed: โ€œThereโ€™s an entire back story to this situation that constitutes one of the most highly provocative situations you can imagine. Please withhold judgment until all the facts of what took place that night are known.” (Adam Schefter)
