Commanders/Cowboys
- According to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport, the Commanders requested to interview Cowboys TEs coach Lunda Wells for their offensive line coach position but Dallas blocked them.
- ESPN’s Todd Archer reports Dallas blocked Washington’s interview request for DB coach Al Harris as well.
- However, the Cowboys did grant permission for the Commanders to interview assistant DL coach Sharrif Floyd and QC coach/defensive assistant Pete Ohnegian. It’s worth noting teams can block interviews for lateral moves but not ones that would be considered promotions. (Archer)
Eagles
- The Athletic’s Brooks Kubena writes just like last year with RB Miles Sanders, there’s a good chance Eagles RB D’Andre Swift finds a more robust free agent market than what Philadelphia wants to match.
- Kubena thinks the Eagles will be able to retain P Braden Mann on a low-cost deal and it will be a relatively high priority given the stability he provided on special teams last year.
- Regarding DE Brandon Graham, Kubena says it seems like he’ll either re-sign with the Eagles on a low-cost deal or retire. Philadelphia does need to bolster its edge-rushing depth.
- Other potential candidates for Philadelphia to re-sign include LB Zach Cunningham and WR Olamide Zaccheaus, per Kubena. He thinks LB Shaquille Leonard will look for a bigger role elsewhere.
- The Browns are hiring Eagles assistant OL coach Roy Istvan to the same position on their staff. (Tom Withers)
Giants
- Bleacher Report’s Jordan Schultz cites sources within the Giants who still believe Daniel Jones is the starting quarterback going forward: โI can tell you that the Giants still believe in Daniel Jones. The Giants still believe, as does Brian Daboll, in Daniel Jones. And the players still do. Thereโs a lot of guys in that locker room that believe Daniel Jones is and should be the guy moving forward.โ
- Schultz reiterated New York hasn’t shut the door on Jones and OC Mike Kafka remains confident in the quarterback: โThe Giants are not ready to shut the door on him. Thereโs a lot still to be played out in terms of the Daniel Jones-Giants situation. What Iโve been told is that not only does the staff and Brian Daboll believe in Daniel Jones, but (Mike) Kafka and the players do as well.”
- ESPN’s Jordan Raanan reports the Giants had to reassess their search for a new defensive coordinator as they did not land their top two choices before settling on former Titans DC Shane Bowen.
- NorthJersey.com’s Art Stapleton reports the Commanders requested to interview Giants assistant special teams coach Mike Adams for their defensive backs coach job.
- Giants RB Saquon Barkley says he wants to remain with the team for life, but addressed his future during an appearance on ESPN: โIf this was my last season, I had a blast. But the beauty of it is, thereโs still a lot left in the tank. If Iโm not a NY Giant next year and Iโm somewhere else, theyโre gonna get a leader, theyโre gonna get a hard worker, theyโre gonna get a competitor.” (Charlotte Carroll)
