NFL Notes: Jaguars, Packers, Steelers

Jaguars

Jaguars HC Doug Marrone says he has been โ€œvery happyโ€ with DT Marcell Dareus in his first offseason with the team.

โ€œIโ€™m very happy with the way heโ€™s worked, the way he has come into camp,โ€ Marrone said, via Mike Kaye of First Coast News. โ€œI think those are things he has done a much better job of than what maybe he had done in the past. I can appreciate that and see that in him.โ€

Dareus was traded to the Jaguars last year after it became clear that things werenโ€™t working with the Bills.

According to Dareus, he and his teammates are continuing to push one another.

โ€œI just want to do the best we can,โ€ Dareus said. โ€œWe just push each other and letโ€™s go. Give me what you got, Iโ€™ll give you what Iโ€™ve got and when youโ€™re tired, just let me know and Iโ€™m right there to pick up where you left off and vice versa.โ€

Packers

Earlier this offseason, Packers HC Mike McCarthy went โ€œback to Page 1 in the playbook.โ€ However, OC Joe Philbin explains that the changes to the offense are more about refinement than โ€œstarting from scratch.โ€

โ€œAs I said to them in the first meeting we had on April 16, โ€˜If you look at historically what this offense has done in the 12 years that Mikeโ€™s been here, I think itโ€™s third in the NFL. So thatโ€™s like in the top 10 percent of your business over a long period of time.โ€™ So theyโ€™ve done a lot of great things here,โ€ Philbin said, via Jason Wilde of the Wisconsin State Journal. โ€œItโ€™s been a process of refining, enhancing, tweaking, as opposed to, โ€˜Yeah we scrubbed it down.โ€™ Yes, we went page by page. [But] weโ€™re not starting from scratch here. These players in that locker room, theyโ€™ve done some great things.โ€

Steelers

Steelers RB James Conner says he has a lot to prove in his second year in the NFL.

โ€œDidnโ€™t really do much [last season] so I have a lot to prove,โ€ Conner said, via Jeremy Fowler of ESPN. โ€œI just needed to learn more, needed to grow more. Iโ€™m in the process of growing right now.โ€

โ€œI havenโ€™t proved anything yet,โ€ Conner added. โ€œJust another opportunity for me to prove to my coaches and earn respect from my teammates that Iโ€™m capable of playing on Sundays.โ€
