Packers Will Not Move Charles Woodson To Safety

The Packers are expected to keep CB Charles Woodson at cornerback next season instead of moving him to the safety position.

The closer Charles is to the ball the more dangerous he is and more impact he has to the offense,” said head coach Mike McCarthy, per Bob McGinn of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel . “He’s the most instinctive defensive player I’ve ever been around.”

The idea has been floated for some time now that Woodson eventually make the transition to playing safety full-time but there’s no question that he’s still capable of making big plays for the offense. McGinn mentions that Woodson didn’t allow a single play over 20 yards during the second-half of the season. Nick Collins health will have a big impact on the team’s secondary next season but the Packers intend to have Woodson back in the slot.
