Patriots Cut LB C.J. Johnson & LS Christian Yount

The New England Patriots announced Thursday that they’ve released LB C.J. Johnson and LS Christian Yount.

Johnson, 24, wound up signing on with the Patriots as an undrafted free agent out of Mississippi back in May. During his five years at Ole Miss, Johnson recorded 180 tackles, 27 tackles for a loss, 13.5 sacks, three interceptions, two forced fumbles, three recoveries and one defensive touchdown.

Yount, 28, originally signed on with the Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent out of UCLA back in 2011. He spent just a few months in Tampa Bay before he was waived midseason and later signed by the Browns.

Cleveland eventually signed him to a five-year deal in 2013 only to cut him loose a few weeks after last year’s draft. The Patriots elected to sign him to a contract back in April.

In 2014, Young appeared in all 16 games for the Browns and recorded four tackles on special teams.
