Josina Anderson of ESPN spoke to sources close to Patriots WR Josh Gordon, who mentioned that they believe Gordon will be ready to return and healthy in one to two weeks. At that point, the Patriots are expected to waive him from their injured reserve list.
According to Ian Rapoport, Gordon has been dealing with bone bruises and it got worse when he took a big hit against the Giants.
The Patriots opted to place Gordon on injured reserve earlier in the week after they agreed to the trade with the Falcons WR Mohamed Sanu.
Because Gordon will be waived after the trade deadline, he’ll need to clear waivers before he can sign with a team of his choosing.
Gordon, 28, is a former second-round supplemental pick of the Browns back in 2012. Suspensions forced Gordon to sit out the 2015 and 2016 seasons but he was reinstated in November of 2017 and finished out the seasons with the Browns.
The Browns re-signed Gordon to a one-year exclusive rights contract worth $790,000 but he was traded to the Patriots for a fifth-round pick. New England re-signed Gordon to a one-year, restricted deal this offseason that will cost them $2.025 million for the 2019 season.
Gordon is in line to be an unrestricted free agent for the first time in his NFL career next year.
In 2019, Gordon has appeared in six games for the Patriots and caught 20 passes for 287 yards receiving and one touchdown.
