Patriots Give CB Stephon Gilmore $5M Raise For 2020 Season

Adam Schefter, citing league sources, reports that the Patriots recently gave CB Stephon Gilmore a “significant” pay raise for the 2020 season.

According to Schefter, the Patriots agreed to increase Gilmore’s 2020 salary from $10.5 million to $15.5 million with a chance to earn up to $17.5 million in incentives, even though he still has another two years left on his current deal.

Gilmore was no longer in the top-10 highest-paid cornerbacks, so the Patriots clearly felt it was best to do right by their best defensive player.

Gilmore, 29, was taken with the No. 10 overall pick by the Bills back in 2012. He played out his rookie contract, but the Bills elected to pick up his fifth-year option for the 2016 season.

Gilmore would later depart for a five-year, $65 million contract that includes $31 million guaranteed with the Patriots. He made a base salary of $9.5 million for the 2019 season.

In 2019, Gilmore appeared in all 16 games for the Patriots and recorded 53 tackles, six interceptions, two defensive touchdowns, a fumble recovery and 20 passes defended.
