Patriots Pick Up $5.67M Of Cap Room By Reworking CB Stephon Gilmore’s Contract

Field Yates of ESPN reports that the Patriots converted $8.5 million of CB Stephon Gilmore‘s contract into a signing bonus, which creates $5.67 million of cap space in 2019.

This is the second straight year the Patriots have restructured Gilmore’s contract for cap purposes.

Gilmore, 28, was taken with the No. 10 overall pick by the Bills back in 2012. He played out his rookie contract, but the Bills elected to pick up his fifth-year option for the 2016 season.

Gilmore would later depart for a five-year, $65 million contract that includes $31 million guaranteed with the Patriots. He stands to make a base salary of $9.5 million for the 2019 season.

In 2018, Gilmore has appeared in all 16 games for the Patriots and recorded 45 tackles, one sack, two interceptions, two forced fumbles, a recovery and 20 pass defenses.
