Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Patriots are “working hard” to re-sign S Devin McCourty to a new deal that would keep him in New England for the remainder of his career.
This comes after the Patriots opted to exercise their option CB Jason McCourty for the 2020 season.
McCourty, 32, is a former first-round pick of the Patriots back in 2010. He played out the fourth year of his five-year, $47.5 million contract that includes $28.5 million guaranteed and made a base salary of and $9 million for the 2019 season.
McCourty is in line to test the open market as an unrestricted free agent this offseason.
In 2019, McCourty appeared in all 16 games for the Patriots and recorded 58 tackles, five interceptions, two forced fumbles, a recovery and seven pass defenses.
