Adam Schefter of ESPN is reporting that Patriots WR Mohamed Sanu is undergoing surgery for a high ankle sprain he suffered and played through last season.
Schefter says Sanu attempted to allow the injury to heal on its own, but ultimately opted to have the surgery.
Sanu, 30, is a former third-round pick of the Bengals back in 2012. He spent four years in Cincinnati before signing a five-year, $32.5 million contract that included $14 million guaranteed with the Falcons in 2016.
The Falcons traded Sanu to the Patriots for a second-round pick before last year’s deadline.
Sanu stands to make a base salary of $6.5 million in 2020.
In 2019, Sanu appeared in 15 games for the Patriots and Falcons and cuaght 59 passes for 520 yards receiving and touchdowns. He also rushed for 11 yards.
