Raiders Expected To Decline S Karl Joseph’s Fifth-Year Option

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Raiders are not expected to pick up S Karl Joseph‘s fifth-year option for the 2020 season.

This comes in contrast to comments from Raiders HC Jon Gruden, who previously told reporters that he expects to pick up Joseph’s fifth-year option before this year’s deadline, per Scott Bair.

Joseph came up last year as a possible trade candidate before the deadline, but the Raiders ultimately elected to hold on to him.

Joseph, 25, is a former first-round pick of the Raiders back in 2016. He’s currently in the third year of his four-year, $11.88 million contract and set to make base salaries of $1.53 million and $2.07 million over the next two years of the agreement.

Joseph will be an unrestricted free agent in 2020.

In 2018, Joseph appeared in 13 games for the Raiders and recorded 47 tackles, two sacks, an interception and two pass defenses.
