Ravens Aren’t Trading Robert Griffin III, Will Keep Him As No. 2 QB

Tom Pelissero says that it’s his understanding that the Ravens aren’t trading QB Robert Griffin III and instead plan to open the season with him as their No. 2 QB behind Joe Flacco.

According to Pelissero, Ravens first-round QB Lamar Jackson will get the opportunity to sit and learn during his rookie season.

Recent reports had said that Baltimore was still fielding trade offers for RGIII, despite keeping him on their 53-man roster. However, it sounds like he’ll get to spend the 2018 season with the Ravens.

Griffin, 28, is a former first-round pick of the Redskins back in 2012. He spent four years in Washington before signing a two-year, $15 million contract that includes $6.75 million guaranteed with the Browns back in 2016.

RGIII was set to make a base salary of $6 million for the 2017 season when the Browns released him last year. He signed with Baltimore to a one-year, $1 million deal earlier this offseason.

In 2016, Griffin appeared in five games thrown for 886 yards while completing 59.2 percent his passes to go along with two touchdowns and three interceptions. He’s also added 190 yards rushing and two touchdowns for the Browns.
