Ravens Interested In Signing CB Jimmy Smith To A Long-Term Contract

Ravens GM Ozzie Newsome told reporters a few days ago that they are hoping to sign 2011 first-round pick CB Jimmy Smith to a long-term contract extension at some point in the near future.

  • Newsome also confirmed interest in locking up K Justin Tucker as well.

We’re trying to get these done, but we haven’t yet,” Newsome said, via BaltimoreRavens.com.

Baltimore did pick up Smith’s fifth-year option a few months ago, which will pay him $6.898 million for the 2015 season. This salary is only guaranteed for injury, so it should have little bearing on long-term contract talks.

Last year, Smith totaled 59 tackles, two interceptions and three forced fumbles for the Ravens over the course of 16 games. Pro Football Focus had him rated as the No. 36 cornerback in the league.
