Redskins Have Made CB Quinton Dunbar Available For Trade

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, citing multiple sources, reports that the Redskins have made CB Quinton Dunbar available for trade.

Dunbar posted the following on his Twitter account shortly after the report surfaced:

A month ago, Josina Anderson of ESPN reported that Dunbar’s camp reached out to the Redskins about a “reasonable contract restructure.” However, Washington declined the conversation.

According to Anderson, Dunbar is “resolute in his desire to be released or traded.”

Dunbar had previously confirmed his request for a fresh start after extension negotiations with Washington had broken off following the change of staff. Dunbar also said he planned to skip voluntary OTA’s without a new contract. 

This will be a situation to watch, as Dunbar is one of the better young cornerbacks in the NFL and could be an appealing option to a number of teams around the league. 

Dunbar, 27, originally signed on with the Redskins as an undrafted free agent out of Florida back in 2015. He was waived at the start of the 2015 season and was later added to the Redskins’ practice squad before being promoted a few weeks later.

Washingon re-signed Dunbar to a three-year, $10.5 million extension through the 2020 season in January of last year. He’s set to make a base salary of $3.25 million next season. 

In 2019, Dunbar appeared in 11 games and recorded 37 total tackles, one tackle for loss, four interceptions and eight pass defenses. Pro Football Focus had him rated as the No. 2 overall cornerback out of 113 qualifying players.
