Kevin Sheehan reports that the Redskins are picking up DL Jonathan Allen‘s fifth-year option for the 2021 season.
This isn’t a big surprise, as Allen is a key part of the Redskins’ defensive front.
The fifth-year option is guaranteed for injury only and won’t prevent the two parties from working on a long-term extension over the next year or so.
Allen, 25, was selected in the first round in 2017 out of Alabama. He signed a four-year, $11.596 million contract that included a $6.573 million signing bonus.
Allen stands to make a base salary of $2.04 million for the 2020 season.
In 2019, Allen appeared in 15 games for the Redskins and recorded 68 tackles, six sacks, a fumble recovery and a pass defense.
