Mike Klis of the Denver Post reports that the Broncos have reached an agreement with DC Jack Del Rio on a two-year extension.
- Klis adds that a deal is expected to be finalized on Friday.
“Jack did a nice job with our defense,” said Broncos president of football operationsย John Elway. “We had a lot of injuries on that defensive side and Jack did a good job holding that side together. Even in the Super Bowl, our defense kept us in the game in the first half.”
Del Rio filled in for HC John Fox who was forced to undergo heart surgery in the middle of the season. He helped the Broncos win three of four games and did a pretty good job for the most part with their defense. However, the unit played poorly in the Super Bowl.
Del Rio’s name surfaced as potential candidate for the USC head coaching job, but with the Broncos season still underway, it allowed USC to shift their focus to other candidates.
The Broncos defense could see a lot of turnover next season with a number of free agents to address.
