Report: Lions Claim TEs Michael Egnew & Emil Igwenagu Off Waivers

Tom Pelissero of USA Today is reporting that the Lions have claimed former Dolphins third-round pick Michael Egnew off of waivers Friday.

  • According to Pelissero, the Seahawks also placed a claim on Egnew, but the Lions had priority over them.
  • Pelissero adds that the Lions also claimed former Eagles FB/TE Emil Igwenagu off waivers as well.

Egnew, 24, has been a major disappointment in his first years in the NFL and it seemed likely that he would go unclaimed, but it appears as though the Lions believe he’s worthy bringing in for an extended look.

Last year, Egnew appeared in 15 games for Miami and caught seven passes for 69 yards and no touchdowns.

Igwenagu, 25, signed with the Eagles as an undrafted free agent out of Massachusetts back in April of 2012. He later signed a future/reserve contract with the Eagles, but was one of the players cut a few days ago.
