Redskins Sign DT Terrance Knighton To A One-Year, $4M Deal

Update:

The Redskins officially announced the signing of DT Terrance Knighton on Friday.

———-

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Redskins are expected to sign veteran DT Terrance Knighton.

Knighton tells Josina Anderson that he’s signing a one-year deal worth $4 million.

“I am going to sign a 1-yr deal with Washington for $4M,” Knighton said in a text message. “I’m excited to play for the Redskins, Mr. Gruden and with my childhood and long time best friend Chris Baker.”

Recent reports had said that the two parties were working to hammering out an agreement, but it looks like Washington will have a new nose tackle next season.

Knighton, 28, was considered by many to be the best nose tackle available in this year’s free agent. However, his weight came up as an area of concern from a few prospective teams. Even so, he’s been very solid on the field and should help to anchor the Redskins’ defensive line.

In 2014, Knighton appeared in all 16 games and recorded 30 tackles, 6.5 sacks, and three pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 12 defensive tackle in the league out of 81 qualifying players.

We had Knighton listed as the No. 18 player in our Top 100 Free Agents list.
