The Saints have officially reached an agreement with Sean Payton on a five-year extension that will keep him in New Orleans through the 2017 season, according to Pro Football Talk.
“I am excited that we have finalized this contract with Sean,” said Saints owner Tom Benson. “He has been a great leader for our organization. He and Mickey (Loomis) have built a foundation of success as they have built the roster. We have already begun preparations for the 2013 season and I look forward to getting Sean back in the building as soon as possible, as I know our fans do as well.”
New Orleans had two different coaches this season, which produced a disappointing 7-9 record and ultimately forced them to miss the playoffs. There’s no question that they’ll benefit from having Payton back on the sidelines next year.
