Saints Sign Veteran DT George Johnson To One-Year Extension

Field Yates of ESPN reports that the Saints have signed veteran DE George Johnson to a one-year extension through 2018.

Johnson, 30, originally signed on with the Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent out of Rutgers back in 2010. After a brief stint with the Vikings, the Lions signed Johnson to a contract back in April of 2014.

Detroit later traded him to the Buccaneers in return for a 2015 fifth-round pick that ultimately became Michael Burton. However, Tampa Bay elected to cut him loose coming out of the preseason and he later signed on with the Lions.

Unfortunately, the Lions waived him late in the season and he later caught on with the Saints and finished out the year in New Orleans.

In 2017, Johnson appeared in seven games for the Lions and Saints and recorded seven tackles, 2.5 sacks and a pass defense.
