Seahawks Have Done “Deep Dive” On Antonio Brown

Jeremy Fowler of ESPN reports that the Seahawks have done a “deep dive” on free agent WR Antonio Brown and have done a lot of research regarding the possibility of signing him to a contract.

Fowler says Seattle feels like they have a good grasp on who Brown is as a player and as a person.

While there’s nothing imminent between the Seahawks and Brown at this time, Fowler mentions that they’re at least monitoring the situation.

As for a potential suspension for Brown, Fowler reports that several teams are on hold with Brown because they’re waiting to hear back from the league regarding potential discipline. Even so, Fowler adds that teams expect Brown to be suspended at least a few games for his prior off-the-field issues.

Another option for the Seahawks would be to re-sign WR Josh Gordon, who is reportedly open to returning to Seattle, according to Fowler.

A few weeks ago, Mike Garafolo of NFL Media reported that Brown would “love” to play for the Seahawks.

This came shortly after Brown was seen working out with Seahawks QB Russell Wilson, who is among reportedly “enamored” with the idea of playing with Brown.

Garafolo says that a number of quarterbacks around the NFL would like to play with Brown including Tom Brady, Lamar Jackson, Wilson and Deshaun Watson.

According to Garafolo, some teams are willing to “strike quickly” and sign Brown while others prefer to allow his situation with the NFL to play out. Garafolo says the Seahawks are likely to be one of the teams who allow things to play out before seriously considering signing Brown to a contract.

Brown has mostly stayed under the radar after a turbulent 2019 and as a result some teams have started to consider him again. Both the Seahawks and Ravens were mentioned as having internal discussions about bringing Brown on board recently.

However, Brown still likely faces a suspension from the NFL for a variety of legal issues, including an accusation of sexual assault. So it remains to be seen what his NFL future holds.

Brown’s former agent, Drew Rosenhaus, conditionally terminated Brown in January after the slew of incidents finally became too much to handle. Brown most recently pled no contest to charges of battery relating to an incident with a moving truck driver.

Brown, 31, is a former sixth-round pick of the Steelers back in 2010. He was in the third year of his five-year, $72.71 million contract when the Steelers traded him to the Raiders back in March.

The Raiders later signed Brown to a new contract worth $50.125 million and includes $30.125 million guaranteed. However, Oakland made the decision to release Brown before the start of the season and he later signed a one-year deal worth up to $15 million with the Patriots.

Brown lasted just 11 days in New England.

In 2019, Brown appeared in one game for the Patriots and caught four passes for 56 yards receiving and one touchdown.

Weโ€™ll have more regarding Brown as the news is available.
