According to Jason La Canfora, the Seahawks have started the process of working with HC Pete Carroll on a long-term extension.
Carroll has one year left on his deal and is the NFL’s oldest coach at 69. However, he has no intention of retiring any time soon and plans to coach well into his 70s.
La Canfora notes a longer deal like Chiefs HC Andy Reid‘s six-year extension is something that could appeal to both Carroll and the Seahawks.
He also adds that while Seattle’s long-term ownership situation is up in the air following the death of owner Paul Allen, sources don’t expect that to affect Carroll’s contract as the team is at least three years from going on the market.
Carroll, 69, was hired as the Seahawks’ head coach back in 2010. Since taking the job, Carroll has led the team to a record of 101-59-1 (62.7 percent) to go along with eight playoff appearances, two trips to the Super Bowl and a championship in 2013.
