Steelers GM Kevin Colbert told reporters that it’s “doubtful” that they’ll use their franchise tag on any their free agents this season, according to Ed Bouchette.
“I don’t think we have too many franchise players,” said Colbert of his team.
The assumption is that the general manager is talking about wide receiver Mike Wallace, whose contract is set to expire at the end of the season. Wallace’s production dropped off this season, but he’s still a marquee receiver that’s in line for a hefty paycheck that the Steelers are leery of paying.
We have Wallace listed as the No. 9 best available player in our Top 50 Free Agents list.
