Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the NFL is still investigating three incidents involving former Chiefs RB Kareem Hunt.
As of now, there’s no deadline for the league to wrap up their investigation, but sources have told Rapoport the belief is that itย will be wrapped up before the start of free agency in March.
Rapoport says that teams interested in signing Hunt will, at the very least,ย know what they need to know before the 2019 league year opens.
The NFL has bundled the three offenses involving Hunt into one case and he has yet to speak withย investigators.
Rapoport says that “several teams” have been keeping tabs on Hunt, touching base and doing homework on him, which means theย likelihood is that he’ll beย back in the NFL in 2019.
Even so, the expectation is that Hunt will receive some discipline from the NFL, which could end up being aย six-plus game suspension.
Bears HC Matt Nagy mentioned last week that he talked to Hunt a week ago to ask how heโs doing personally. Nagy added that he believes in second chances โbut every situation is different.โ
Although, Bears GM Ryan Pace clarified they โweโre not even close to that pointโ of pursuing a contract with Hunt.
Hunt, 23, is a former third-round pick of the Chiefs back in 2017. He was in the second year of his four-year, $3.263-million contract and set to make base salaries of $555,000 and $645,000 over the next two years of the agreement when the Chiefs waived him in December.
In 2018, Hunt has appeared in 11 games for the Chiefs and rushed for 824 yards on 181 carries (4.6 YPC) to go along with 26 receptions for 378 yards receiving and 14 total touchdowns.
