The Minnesota Vikings announced on Friday that Matt Cassel will be their starting quarterback this Sunday when they take on the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Interestingly enough, Patriots QB Tom Brady mentioned that Cassel could end up being the starter earlier in the week after the two had talked.
Christian Ponder is dealing with a rib injury, but it appears to be bad enough that the Vikings feel as though it would hinder his ability to produce at a high level. Cassel has received the majority of the reps with the first-team offense this weekend, which continued on Friday as well.
Minnesota has said that they intend to keep Ponder in place as their starting quarterback, but it would make for an interesting situation if Cassel was able to lead them to their first win of the season.
