Dolphins WR Rishard Matthews “Very Likely” To Test Free Agent Market

Rand Getlin of NFL Media, citing multiple sources, reports that Dolphins free agent WR Rishard Matthews is “very likely” to test the open market.

  • Getlin adds that the market for Matthews is expected to be hot.

Last we heard regarding Matthews, Adam Beasley of the Miami Herald reported that the Dolphins had reached out to Matthews about a new contract.

Beasley admitted that Matthews being back in Miami would likely come down to a number of factors such as how much they’re willing to pay him and the amount of playing time they can offer him moving forward.

The Dolphins don’t have a lot of cap space right now, and they may need to make a number of moves just to keep DE Olivier Vernon. Plus, Miami has DeVante Parker and Kenny Stills in place as likely replacements.

Matthews, 26, played out the final year remaining on his four-year, $2,151,392 rookie contract that includes a base salary of $660,000 for the 2015 season and will be an unrestricted free agent in the next few weeks.

In 2015, Matthews appeared in 11 games and caught 43 passes for 662 yards receiving and four touchdowns for the Dolphins. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 35 receiver out of 121 qualifying players.

We have him featured in our Top 100 – 2016 Free Agents list.
