49ers & Jets Doing Due Diligence On Josh Gordon

On Sunday, 49ers GM John Lynch said they’ve reached out to the Browns to express interest in WR Josh Gordon. Lynch explained that they’re doing their diligence on Gordon, per Matt Maiocco.

Meanwhile, Rich Cimini reports that Jets have “some interest” in Gordon, but this can be characterized as due diligence at this point. Cimini admits that Gordon being traded to the Jets appears unlikely, given that they appear to be okay at the receiver positions.

Earlier in the day, Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reported that Gordon has his eye the Cowboys and 49ers as teams he’s interested in playing for.

The Browns announced Saturday that they plan to release Gordon this week and reports later surfaced that teams are showing interest in a potential trade for him.

Gordon’s release was reportedly triggered by a hamstring injury he suffered during a recent photo shoot.

Gordon, 27, is a former second-round supplemental pick of the Browns back in 2012. Suspensions forced Gordon to sit out the 2015 and 2016 seasons but he was reinstated in November of last year and finished out the seasons with the Browns.

The Browns re-signed Gordon to a one-year exclusive rights contract worth $790,000. Gordon was in line to be a restricted free agent in 2019.

In 2018, Gordon has appeared in one game and caught one pass for 17 yards and a touchdown.

We’ll have more regarding Gordon as the news is available.
