49ers Place CB Ahkello Witherspoon On IR, Sign DB Tyvis Powell

The San Francisco 49ers announced Tuesday that they have placed CB Ahkello Witherspoon on injured reserve and signed DB Tyvis Powell to a one-year deal.

49ers HC Kyle Shanahan announced Monday that Witherspoon was out for the season with a PCL sprain, so this move was expected.

Witherspoon, 23, is a former third-round pick of the 49ers back in 2017. He’s currently in the second year of his four-year, $3.88 million contract that included a $973,572 signing bonus and stands to make base salaries of $815,375 and $992,393 over the final two years of the agreement.

In 2018, Witherspoon appeared in 14 games for the 49ers and recorded 37 tackles, no interceptions and four pass defenses.
