The idea of the 49ers signing Lloyd came up last week as they are reportedly looking for more competition at their No. 3 receiver position to go along with second-year receiver Quinton Patton.
Lloyd, 32, wound up sitting out the entire 2013 season after he was released by the Patriots back in March of last year. There was some minimal interest in him, but nothing ever progressed all that far.
In 2012, Lloyd appeared in all 16 games for New England and caught 74 passes for 911 yards receiving and four touchdowns.
