49ers Sticking With Colin Kaepernick As Starting QB For Week 7

49ers HC Chip Kelly announced Monday that Colin Kaepernick will remain the team’s starting quarterback for their Week 7 game against the Buccaneers.

The 49ers didn’t come away with a win against the Bills, but it appears as though Kelly would like to see what Kaepernick can do with an extended opportunity.

Kaepernick, 28, was in the third year of his seven-year, $126.97 million contract that included $61 million guaranteed when reached an agreement with the 49ers on a restructured deal.

Kaepernick’s new contract will give him the ability to void his deal after this season and test the open market. He can earn $1 million in play-time incentives if he takes 34.4 percent of the team’s snaps. The 49ers got him to waive his injury guarantees for next season as part of the agreement.

According to reports from this past weekend, Kaepernick also took out a $7.5 million loss-of-value insurance policy prior to signing his renegotiated contract.

In 2016, Kaepernick has completed 13-of-29 passes for 187 yards and a touchdown, while adding 66 yards rushing.
