Andre Johnson Reports To Training Camp

John McClain of the Houston Chronicle reported earlier this morning that Texans WR Andre Johnson reported to training camp.

  • According to McClain, Texans owner Bob McNair played “a key role” in Johnson to end his holdout.
  • Ian Rapoport reports that Johnson received no monetary compensation or promises for returning to the team. The Texans wound up recruiting him.
  • Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk spoke to sources who mentioned: “[Johnson] reported after getting some comfort on direction and comfort on his future security.  He got a strong word from ownership that his future is strongly secure.”

Johnson’s absence from offseason workouts was reportedly related to a “standoff” involving a $1 million workout bonus, but it appears as though he is comfortable with the team and where they are headed to push the issue any further.

Johnson, 33, still has three years remaining on his seven-year, $62.7 million contract. He’s set to make $6.5 million for the 2014 season before his base salary increases to $10.5 million in 2015.

In 2013, Johnson caught 109 passes for 1,407 yards receiving and five touchdowns.
