Packers Releasing WR Jordy Nelson

The Packers have already confirmed the news.

“We cannot thank Jordy enough for all that he has given the Green Bay Packers and our community for the past 10 years,” GM Brian Gutekunst said. “He has been an exemplary professional and teammate and greatly contributed to our success. Jordy will always be a member of the Packers family and we look forward to his eventual induction into the Packers Hall of Fame. We wish Jordy, his wife Emily, and the rest of their family all the best.”

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the Packers are releasing veteran WR Jordy Nelson on Tuesday.

There was speculation that Nelson could be on the chopping block this offseason after what was a disappointing 2017 season for him.

The Packers also just agreed to a three-year contract with TE Jimmy Graham, so it appears as though they’re planning to shift this money to Graham.

Nelson, 32, is a former second-round pick of the Packers back in 2008. He’ll be entering the final year of his five-year, $43 million contract and set to make a base salary of $9.25 million for the 2018 season.

According to OverTheCap.com, releasing Nelson will free up $10,218,750of available cap space while creating $2.3 million in dead money.

In 2017, Nelson appeared in 15 games for the Packers and caught 53 passes for 482 yards receiving and six touchdowns.
