Browns Starting Robert Griffin III At QB In Season Finale

Browns HC Hue Jackson announced Friday that Robert Griffin III will start the team’s season finale against the Steelers, per Nate Ulrich.

RGIII officially cleared the concussion protocol on Thursday, so this doesn’t come as a big surprise, especially considering that the Browns have been using the final few games of the year to get an extended look at him as their starting quarterback.

Griffin, 26, is a former first-round pick of the Redskins back in 2012. He spent four years in Washington before signing a two-year, $15 million contract that includes $6.75 million guaranteed with the Browns back in March.

RGIII stands make a base salary of $6 million for the 2017 season.

Although the Browns will face a decision regarding Griffin next March, as he has a $750,000 roster bonus at that point. If the Browns pick up his bonus, RGIII would be paid a $6 million base salary with $750,000 more being available in per-game bonuses.

This season, Griffin has appeared in four games thrown for 654 yards while completing 54.2 percent his passes to go along with no touchdowns and two interceptions. He’s also added 158 yards rushing and two touchdowns for the Browns.
