Browns VP Sashi Brown Says They’re “Not Looking To Trade” Josh Gordon

Browns executive VP Sashi Brown said that they are “not looking to trade” Josh Gordon, despite the recent report that surfaced earlier in the week that they’ve received calls from other teams about Gordon.

When asked about the reports that they’re concerned Gordon could stumble at some point, Brown said he won’t get into any speculation.

“Not going to get into any of the speculation,” Brown said, via the Cleveland Plain Dealer. “I think that’s really what that was. Josh is doing well. He’s working hard. He’s in with his teammates. I think he understands that position he’s in and what the opportunity is here with the Browns. He’s serious about wanting to get back in the league and obviously for him getting back with his teammates here has been a great thing. We talk to him regularly and he’s doing well.”

Brown explained that there are hundreds conversations going around the league about players all the time, so it’s not surprising that Gordon’s name was mentioned in a report.

“I’m just not going to enter into any of the speculation,” Brown said. “I understand what the interest is in Josh. There are literally hundreds of conversations going around the league about players all the time, and if we got into speculating about all the reports, about what could be going on and what conversations could be going on we’d be here for a much longer time than we have.”

For what it’s worth, two NFL GMs recently told Jason Cole of B/R that they have at best “mild interest” in Gordon.

Should the Browns make Gordon available for trade, the two GMs tell Cole that their best offer would be a conditional sixth- or seventh-round pick for him.

According to Cole, there’s still concern from NFL teams regarding Gordon’s commitment to playing football, which is likely the reason they would only be willing to offer a conditional late-round pick for him.

Gordon will be suspended for the first four weeks of the 2016 season.

Gordon, 25, is a former second-round supplemental pick of the Browns back in 2012. He would have had just one more year remaining on his four-year, $5.342 million rookie contract that$3.8 million included guaranteed had he not been suspended during the 2014 season.

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk reports that Gordon will be a restricted free agent in 2017, as he was limited to appearing in just five games during the 2014 season, due to a 10-game suspension coupled and a one-game suspension imposed by the Browns.

Gordon will have just three accrued NFL seasons by the start of free agency next year. In order to become an unrestricted free agent, a player needs four accrued seasons of NFL experience.

In 2014, Gordon appeared in five games and caught 24 passes for 303 yards receiving, but didn’t score a touchdown.
