Buccaneers Pick Up QB Jameis Winton’s Fifth-Year Option

According to Rick Stroud, the Buccaneers have exercised QB Jameis Winston’s fifth-year option on Tuesday, which will cost Tampa Bay $20.922 million for the 2019 season.

It’s worth mentioning that the fifth-year option is only guaranteed for injury and won’t prevent the two parties from working on a long-term extension in the next year or so.

Winston, 24, is a former first-round pick of the Buccaneers back in 2015. He’s currently entering the final year of his four-year, $25.35 million contract and stands to make a base salary of $705,000 in 2018.

In 2017, Winston appeared in 13 games and thrown for 3,504 yards while completing 63.8 percent of his passes to go along with 19 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. He has also rushed for 135 yards. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 16 quarterback out of 39 qualifying players.
