Chargers & Raiders Open To Changing Divisions To Facilitate Move To L.A.

Former 49ers executive Carmen Policy, who is helping to oversee the Carson project in Los Angeles, said that Monday that the Chargers and Raiders have agreed to change divisions, if necessary, in order for the league to approve their relocation, according the Associated Press.

The Raiders and Chargers would end up sharing the $1.78 billion stadium that would be built in the city of Carson. However, the two teams are, of course, division rivals in the AFC West, which could create a number of issues if they’re sharing a stadium.

Policy mentioned that both teams have made clear to the league and the other NFL owners that “you send us to LA and you’ll make the decision as to who plays in what conference or division.

“There are some very interesting scenarios, depending on how all this turns out,” Policy added.

This isn’t the first time the idea has been proposed.

Jason La Canfora previously reported that “some in the know” have speculated that the Chargers could be asked to move to the NFC in exchange as part of their relocation efforts.

If this were to happen, La Canfora suggested the Cardinals could relocate to the AFC West, which would allow the Raiders to maintain their long-time rivalries with the Chiefs and Broncos.

We’ll have more regarding the Chargers and Raiders possibly changing divisions and relocating to Los Angles as the news is available.
