Cowboys Not Interested In Signing Backup QB, Despite Paxton Lynch Being Available

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said during an interview with 105.3 the Fan (per Jane Slater) on Monday that they are not interested in bringing in another backup quarterback, despite the fact that they once coveted Paxton Lynch.

Many have wondered whether the Cowboys would look to improve their backup quarterback situation. However, it sounds like Jones and the team are comfortable moving forward with Cooper Rush and Mike White behind Dak Prescott.

As for Lynch, he officially cleared waivers on Monday, making him a free agent. He’s now scheduled to meet with the Bills on Tuesday.

Lynch, 24, was taken with the No. 26 overall pick after the Broncos traded up from No. 31 overall to get him in 2016 NFL Draft. Lynch signed a four-year, $9.4 million contract that includes $7.88 guaranteed and was set to make a base salary of $1.31 million this season when the Broncos waived him this last weekend.

In 2017, Lynch appeared in two games for the Broncos and completed 66.7 percent of his passes to go along with two touchdowns and three interceptions. He also rushed for 30 yards.
