Cowboys Signing K/P Brett Maher

Todd Archer of ESPN reports that the Cowboys are signing kicker/punter Brett Maher to a contract on Wednesday.

Archer explains that the decision to sign Maher is more about not overworking Dan Bailey and Chris Jones this offseason.

Maher, 28, originally signed on with the Jets as an undrafted free agent of Nebraska back in 2013. He lasted just a few months in New York before he waived and later signed by the Cowboys during the preseason.

Unfortunately, Dallas cut Maher loose just a few weeks later as they cut their roster down to the 75-man limit. Maher has spent the past three years in the CFL before signing a one-year deal with the Browns last year.

Cleveland elected to move on from Maher shortly after last year’s draft.

In total, Maher has converted 66 of 87 field goal attempts (75.9 percent) and a total of 263 points. He also totaled 11,683 punt yards on 257 attempts (45.5 YPA).
