Dolphins DE Dion Jordan Suspended Again, Out Until October

Dolphins DE Dion Jordan has reportedly had his four-game suspension lifted by the NFL. However, Jordan again violated the NFL’s Substance Policy again and received another suspension from the league that will keep him out until October, according to Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald.

  • Jordan will be eligible to return for Miami’s Week 7 game against the Chicago Bears.
  • Salguero adds that Jordan is currently in a treatment facility and is working to overcome a drug problem.

Statement from Jordan regarding the second suspension:

“I am currently undergoing treatment to address my situation.I am working hard to become a better man and to make better choices in the future. I am especially looking forward to returning to the team.  I also want to thank my family, Coach Philbin and the Miami Dolphins organization for their support.”

Statement from Dolphins HC Joe Philbin:

We were informed that Dion’s suspension for performance enhancing drugs was lifted, however, we also learned that he has been suspended four games for violating the Policy on Performance-Enhancing Substances. While we were disappointed to learn of this result, we support Dion for proactively taking steps to voluntarily seek treatment to better himself.

“We will continue to support and work with him as he takes advantage of all available resources during this time.

Jordan, 24, was originally suspended four games for violating the NFL’s performance enhancing substance policy. Pro Football Talk reported that Jordan tested positive for stimulants before the 2014 league year got underway on March 11, but reports of his suspension didn’t come out until July.

The Dolphins traded up to No. 3 overall back in 2012 to select Jordan, but he hasn’t come anywhere close to living up to his draft status. Even if he was active, there is no guarantee he would see much playing time given that the Dolphins have two solid defensive ends.

He still has three years remaining on his four-year, $20.572 million contract. Last year, Jordan played 339 snaps for the Dolphins and recorded 26 tackles and two sacks over the course of 16 games.
