Dolphins Cut 11 Players Including C J.D. Walton & S Phillip Thomas

Update:

The Miami Dolphins announced that they’ve cut 11 players as they work to get their roster down to 75 players before Tuesday’s deadline.

Here’s the group of players that have either been released or waived:

Thomas, 26, is a former fourth-round pick of the Redskins back in 2013. He was waived by the Redskins a month ago in a move that cleared $510,000 in cap space for Washington.

Miami would later sign him to a contract, but it appears as though he wasn’t able to stand out during his time with the team.

In 2014, Thomas appeared in eight games and recorded 27 tackles and fumble recovery. He previously missed the entire 2013 season after he sustained a broken foot.

Walton, 28, signed a two-year, $5 million contract that included $3 million guaranteed with the Giants back in March of last year, but was released in a move that freed up $3 million in cap space.

The Dolphins wound up signing him to a contract a few weeks into free agency to bolster their depth at center, but it appears as though they prefer their other options.

Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 38 center out of 41 qualifying players last year.
