Dolphins Waiving LB Rey Maualuga After Battery Arrest

Pro Football Talk reports that the Dolphins are waiving veteran LB Rey Maualuga after he was arrested Friday night in Miami.

  • Andy Slater reports that Maualuga was at a club at 8:30 am Saturday morning when he allegedly wouldn’t pay the $40 tag he owed. After being asked to pay up, Maualuga allegedly grabbed the victim by the throat.

Maualuga, 30, is a former second-round pick of the Bengals back in 2009. He was entering the final year of his three-year, $15 million contract and was set to make a base salary of $3.7 million in 2017 when Cincinnati released him.

The Bengals released him several months ago in a move that created $3,668,750 in available cap space.

Miami signed him to a one-year, $900,000 contract back in August.

So far this season, Maualuga has appeared in six games and recorded 23 total tackles.
