Dolphins Interest In RT Eric Winston Has “Waned,” Tyson Clabo A Possible Option

Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald writes that the Dolphins interest in free agent RT Eric Winston has “waned” in recent weeks.

Salguero adds that recently released RT Tyson Clabo could be a possibility, but the team is primarily focused on preparing for the upcoming draft at this point in the offseason.

With Andre Smith also available, it’s doubtful that any of these players will secure the type of money that they’re looking for, despite the fact that a number of teams could use some help at right tackle. It’s become more than apparent that NFL teams do not value right tackles very highly and there should be a number of options in this year’s draft to consider.

We have Winston listed as the No. 3 best available player in our Best Available Free Agents list.

—————–

Free agent RT Eric Winston joined NFL AM on Thursday and mentioned that he’s no closer to reaching a deal with the Dolphins.

“I’m just kind of looking for the right fit right now,” Winston said, via the Palm Beach Post. “Obviously I have ties to South Florida. Being down there is not the be all, end all.”

  • Les Bowen reports that the Eagles recently “checked in” on Winston.
  • Michael Gehlken reports that the “door remains open” for Winston to sign with the Chargers, but adds that nothing appears imminent at this time.

Winston, 29, is one of the best available offensive tackles still on the market. The Dolphins and Chargers could really use some additional depth, but they appear to be unwilling to pay for a player who has been released twice in as many seasons.

We have him listed as the No. 7 best available player in our recently updated Top 50 Free Agents list.
