Falcons Phasing Out RB Michael Turner?

There was plenty of talk that the Atlanta Falcons were prepared to change their offensive gameplan this season, which in turn would result in a reduced role for RB Michael Turner. Since then, not only have the Falcons made good on their intentions, but as a result, they are currently the only remaining undefeated team in the NFL.

Turner seemed to be a little frustrated with his role following the game.

“I’m not sure why it’s going like this,” said Turner, via the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “It’s great to be 6-0 and everything. But we can’t just assume we’re always going to be able to get an interception or a last-minute field goal every time. At some point we’re going to have to run the ball. We’ve got to be able to knock it in [the endzone].

I think Turner makes a good point in that eventually opposing teams will figure out how to stop their passing attack, much like what happened to the Packers last season, so it will be important for them to run the ball well against certain teams. There’s no question that Turner is not the same kind of weapon that he was a few year’s ago for them, but they will have to make some improvements if they really intend on making a deep postseason run this year.
